Welcome! This is Musicity: where you can experience architecture-inspired music and sound art in the very place that sparked its creation.
Founded in 2010 by Nick Luscombe, Musicity invites musicians and recording artists to compose tracks in response to buildings and locations in cities around the world. Our aim is to support and promote new music, and also to transform the experience of listening to it. In an age when so much music is available in an instant via streaming services, Musicity wants to bring back the joy of seeking it out and collecting it, encouraging the audience to venture out, to be active not passive consumers of contemporary music, to explore cities, and to experience the urban environment in new and unexpected ways. Musicity has taken its programme of events to Tokyo, Singapore, Oslo, Tallinn and Seoul with a relaunch in London in Autumn 2017, working with a variety of partners including Arts Council of England, The British Council, RIBA, LG, the PRSF and British Land. Recent media coverage has included features in Time Out and The Big Issue, on BBC Radio 4 Today programme and BBC One News.
To date Musicity Global has commissioned more than 50 pieces of music and spoken word pieces from a diverse selection of artists including Ghostpoet, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Hannah Peel, Gabriel Prokofiev, patten, Neon Bunny, Moses Boyd, Stick in the Wheel, and many others.
This summer we've worked with a variety of partners to bring you seven more exclusive tracks across South London. They are all ready to collect now, alongside the seven tracks from last year. Check the London section of the website.
Look out for another series of brand new tracks this July commissioned for venues across the City of London with Sculpture in the City, Musicity Live in Tokyo in October and also our first events in China later in the year!
