Following on from a successful summer of location-based listening events and performances in London,
Musicity arrives in Tokyo for the first event in a live series.
The first event welcomes Langham Research Centre from the UK, long-time Japan resident Jim
O’Rourke, and Kassel Jaeger from France.
Langham Research Centre is a group of current and former BBC Radio producers/composers. LRC
perform classic electronic music using the technology of the time, and compose new music using an
instrumentarium of vintage analogue devices, in the spirit of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop.
Jim O’Rourke is a musician, composer and filmmaker whose borderless activity goes beyond the
common labels Alternative, Post-rock, Experimental-pop, Film music, Free music, Jazz, Americana,
Contemporary music and continues to defy classification.
Kassel Jaeger is the project name of composer and electroacoustic musician François J. Bonnet. Kassel
Jaeger’s works are a complex balance between concrète experimentalism, ambient noise, and
electroacoustic improv. He is also Director of the legendary and pioneering Ina GRM Paris, a writer, and a
The evening will be hosted by Musicity Live Tokyo residents Nick Luscombe and James Greer who will
play short sets of new music made entirely from field recordings of urban soundwalks made in and around
the Tokyo megapolis.
