Flat Iron Square is a recent addition to the architectural landscape of north Southwark. Developed by Witherford Watson Mann architects and opened in October 2016, it was created as a new ‘foodie’ hub, close to the popular Borough Market. An open-air social space and live music venue, with a mix of bars, restaurants and street food, the square incorporates seven railway arches and the Grade II listed Devonshire House. Flat Iron Square is intended to be the first stop on London’s ‘Low Line’, an ambitious long-term project to open up a walking route along the base of the rail viaducts through Bankside, which will link the neighbourhoods between London Bridge and Waterloo, Blackfriars and Elephant and Castle.
