London

After various adventures in Singapore, Tokyo, Tallinn and Oslo, this Autumn sees the relaunch of Musicity in its birthplace – London – where we’ll be focusing on the Borough of Southwark.

Music has been commissioned from a diverse selection of local artists, each of whom have created tracks for different locations, including Elephant and Castle Shopping Centre, Borough Market, Canada Water Bus Station and The Shard.

The musicians have worked closely with sound artist Paul Bavister, from architectural firm Flanagan and Lawrence, to shape their track. Paul also lectures at London's Bartlett School of Architecture on the relationship between sound and architecture. This fascinating aspect of the Musicity project gives a deeper connection between music and physical space, and is explained in Paul’s blog post.

We hope that you’ll enjoy this special selection of brand new music by getting out and about in South London and streaming the track via your smartphone, seeing this part of the city in a brand new light. Perhaps you’ll also discover new places of interest – areas of architectural significance, or a new coffee shop, cafe or record store…
